The Arabian horse has followed man through hundreds of years and multiple changes; from the Arabian Desert to America.  It has influences in horse breeds such as the American Quarter Horse, Thoroughbred, Mustang, Morgan, and many more.  It is one of the few real foundations of what we know as horses.  This increadible horse, originating from the heat of the desert, sun, sand and little water has influenced our lives and managed to find a home in our hearts as a most amazing breed.  Their capabilities of stamina, endurance, and competitive behavior have enabled them to compete--most successfully--in in one of the most challenging equestrian sports, Endurance, Limited Distance, and Competitive Trail.  The Arabian Horse Distance Riding Association works to not only support, but promote, the apparent successfulness and natural, astonishing ability the Arabian Horse shows in this discipline.
Congratulations to the Arabian Horse Association National Championship Competitors!  We heard that it was a challenging course, but a lot of fun.  Well done all!  Congrats specifically to:

  • Deb Searle on WOA Raven's Premier+ (Partbred Arabian) on fifth place in Competitive!

  • Marge Dixon on Kenlyn Intrigue (Purebred Arabian) on the 50 endurance (seventh) and again to Marge on Kenlyn Lexus (Purebred Arabian and half sister to Kenlyn Intrigue) in the Open 25 LD--winning first and Best Condition!  A big thank you to Marge for being our "ambassador" to the Championships and all her hard work liasoning between AHA and AHDRA!

If you compete in a ride outside of UMECRA (the Upper Midwest Endurance and Competitive Riding Association) you MUST report these rides within two weeks for the points to count.

Christine Lazzarini has created a new documentary about Endurance Horse Riding called "Arabian Silk:  Horses of Endurance."  Not only winning the Audience Choice Award, it also was a finalist at the Reno Film Festival.  Karen Chaton wrote a review, which can be seen at
http://enduranceridestuff.com/blog/2009/06/review-arabian-silk-horses-endurance/  "This heart-warming and intriguing film inspects the fastest growing equestrian discipline of Endurance Horse Racing.  The story follows Roger, an endurance horse, through his life of racing and illuminates the powerful friendship between him and his rider, Jerry.  the sport has been described as arduous and painful, as well as pleasant and fulfilling.  At its most grueling, Endurance Racing demands a horse and rider go 100 miles in under 24 hours.  With only few mandatory breaks for rest, racers endure seemingly endless hours of hard riding under the desert sun during the day and couragously trek through the ominous darkness of pitch-black night.  The purity of the connection between horse and rider is poignant and inspiring, as you watch the bond strengthen into deep, touching friendship as they go through trial and triumph."  (Christine Lazzarini).  To see trailers for the movie, go to www.arabiansilk.com  Christine will be at the AERC Convention in February to sell the "Arabian Silk" DVD.  For further information go to "Arabian Silk's" website or www.gypsymothproductions.com
